Avalanche Falls
Munising Falls is located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, just east of downtown Munising. The falls are part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore along Lake Superior, and are easily accessible to the public. Plenty of parking is provided at the adjacent National Lakeshore's visitor center, where clearly marked paths lead to the head of the falls.
Up until the 1980's, you could follow a trail to the underside of the falls. Due to concerns of falling rocks, the trail was eventually closed. From our side of the falls, we had to leave the upper viewing platform and scale down a steep unmarked hill to get to the position of this photo. It was 90 degrees and dreadfully humid, but well worth the extra effort.
