Old Man's Cave is located within Hocking Hills State Park, near Logan, Ohio. Originally covered by a shallow sea millions of years ago, the timeless process of history transformed the area into a salty delta, and then a dry Black Hand Sandstone seabed. Centuries of erosion took over, sculpting the seabed into the beautiful gorges, cliffs, and waterfalls of today's State Park.
Initially the main recess, and now the entire gorge was named after a hermit Richard Rowe. Rowe was rumored to have lived in the cave after the Civil War, and remained until his death. The Old Man's Cave area is just one of a half dozen major natural attractions of the park. This 1/2 mile long gorge includes 2 waterfalls, the cave, large Hemlock trees, and numorous rock formations.
