Moses Cleaveland Camp, Heroes of '76
Commander
Charles E. Cole
Chief of Staff
Raymond F. Bishop
Commander of the Guard Jerry J. Brove
Adjutant
Wilfrid A. Grose, Jr.
Incoming Commander's Message
Brothers and Comrades,
As your incoming Commander of Moses Cleaveland Camp, Heroes of ’76, I would like to set the tone for the ensuing year.
I believe that an active and vital Camp can only result in a strong and effective Chapter.
It will be my goal to revitalize the Heroes Camp to support our Chapter.
I have asked PNP (MAJ) Bill Koeckert to serve as my Chief of Staff. Bill’s many years of service to the Fraternity and
to the National Sojourners will provide me with much wise counsel. I have also asked PC (LTC) Jerry Brove to continue
to serve as our Commander of the Guard and it is my sincere desire to have PC (LTjg) Will Gross continue on as our Adjutant.
I plan on meeting and exceeding, where possible, the minimum requirements set forth in the Heroes Manual for Camp meetings,
activities, and degree conferrals. We will have a minimum of 4 Camp meetings that may or may not be conducted concurrently
with the Chapter meetings. We will have separate Camp Officers meetings to discuss the direction of the Camp and to set
further goals.
Last year we did not confer any Heroes degrees and the year prior to that we only conferred the degree once, on two
candidates. This year we will meet the minimum number by conducting a Fall and a Spring Heroes degree conferral. It is
important that we do this work even if we do not have any eligible candidates. This work is just as important and is as
moving and inspirational as any other work that is conferred by the Fraternity. Selfishly, when I vacate this post, I do
not want to be considered a "Former Commander" but as a "Past Commander" according to the Manual.
I am looking for the Heroes to become active in spreading the Sojourners and Heroes message to our Symbolic Lodges and
Appendant Bodies. I want to discuss this in detail with the Camp so that we can achieve the greatest degree of success.
I want to become more visible in the community by participating in Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day ceremonies as well as other
patriotic activities (flag disposal ceremonies, ROTC visits, etc.).
I look forward to a busy and successful year as Commander of Moses Cleaveland Camp and ask that you help support our mission
of Patriotism and Fraternalism.
In Service To You,
Raymond F. Bishop

Membership-In-Perpetuity (MIP)
Life membership in National Sojourners is obtained through
Membership-In-Perpetuity (MIP). An MIP cost only $200.00.
Comparing MIP to yearly dues paying membership, MIP is the
best deal in town. At the current rate of $29.00 annual dues, an
MIP will pay for itself in less than 7 years. Payment may be
submitted to the Secretary. The Secretary will then forward the application
and fees to National Headquarters who will issue a permanent membership
card and MIP Star for your Sojourner Medal.
Honorary Membership
Honorary members are those Master Masons who are ineligible
for Active membership, but who have been regularly elected to
membership in a Chapter of National Sojourners in recognition of
meritorious service to the nation or Freemasonry.
The Chapter has a 15% limit of honorary members,
therefore, recommendations for honorary membership must be coordinated with
the President and the Secretary. As our number of regular Active members
increase, so does our limit for honorary members. So. let's find
those Master Masons who are eligible and get their applications
submitted.
Grand Masters, Past Grind Masters, Grand Secretaries and
elected Grand Lodge Officers do not count against the 15% limit.
Bridge of Light
All Sojourners should attend at least one stated meeting of their
Lodge annually, be present at the conferral of the three Blue
Lodge Degrees annually, and attend the Annual Masonic District
meeting whenever able. Show support to the York Rite, Scottish
Rite, Shrine, Grotto, Tall Cedars, Eastern Star, Amaranth,
DeMolays, Rainbows and all other organizations that are
members of our Masonic family. Your time and your generosity
are needed to support the good work done by all of our fraternal
organizations. Decide where you can best contribute and take an
active part. Just as Sojourners have been leaders in their military
callings, so should they use the leadership skills acquired there to
strengthen their Masonic and civil duties and responsibilities.
