Some hints on using the the Custom Awards fields of DX4WIN. The Custom Awards fields are driven by the Dx4win.awd file that is found in the /SAVE subdirectory of your DX4WIN directory. Most are specific to a particular prefix and/or band. Once you have entered a call, for example W1AW, you can tab down to the "Custom award" field and using the up and down arrow keys, to see what Custom awards are available for that call. Some will make sense and some won't, it all depends on how the award is set up. As an example, using the W1AW call, let's look at how we can enter a Custom award for the U.S. Islands Award program. First tab down to the "Custom award" field and using the up and down arrows select the U.S. ISLANDS AWARD. (Hint: you can also type the 1st letter of the award name to be taken to the 1st award beginning with that letter and then arrow up and down) Now tab to the "Value" field. Let's say that W1AW was working from Santa Barbara Island CA010S. There are three ways that you can select the value for the award: 1). With the "Value" field selected; type the first letter of the name and you will be taken to the first award value beginning with that letter. You can then use the up and down arrow keys to select the award value. 2). With the "Value" field selected, press F1. This will bring up the Award Value screen. This list is in sequence by the name field. Start typing in the name of the island and you will be taken to the correct award value. 3). With the "Value" field selected, press F1. This will bring up the Award Value screen. This list is in sequence by the name field. Now let's say for some reason the op was only able to give you the island number, CA010S. How are you going to find it, simple. Press F2, this resequences the Award Value screen into sequence by the award number. Now, just start typing in the island number CA010 and you will be taken to the correct award value. modified 7 Nov 2001
